Design Idea Competition Scheme As A People Place
The new Pasar Awam SK10 amplifies the best that the town of Seri Kembangan has to offer, strengthened by close-knit & vibrant communities that strongly support their local businesses. By reimagining the Pasar Awam at its original location at the namesake Lebuh Pasar, the intention is that this ripple effect will positively impact the surrounding areas & Seri Kembangan in general.
By respecting the scale & function of the existing urban fabric of shop houses & commercial buildings, synergy of formal & informal economic activities, mix of low & medium-scale housing areas adjacent to the site, & existing vehicular & pedestrian traffic flows, the proposal interprets this into a new Pasar Awam with the vision of it becoming "Jalur Komuniti Seri Kembangan", or the market as a People Place for Seri Kembangan.
The focus is on the new market as a significant socio-economic node, architectural landmark as well as potential tourist destination for Seri Kembangan. It is envisioned that the design catalysis future growth through sustainable, resilient & openly creative business & social activities.
Similar to other well-known wet market redevelopment efforts in Malaysia, a successful scheme in Seri Kembangan supported by all its stakeholders leads to stronger communal ties. Furthermore, it would potentially set the tone for a sustained, resilient, & creative infrastructural development for many years to come. Effectively, a well-designed & fully functioning market becomes a lifeline & contributes to the socio-economic pulse of the community it serves.
